Tony Hertz is an award-winning photographer with more than 20 years of professional experience. He spent 10 years as a daily newspaper photographer in California, and now focuses on landscape and corporate/editorial photography.

Tony relishes the opportunity to regularly practice his craft. Meeting deadlines as a photojournalist helped refine his compositional instincts when he turned to landscape subjects. The natural world, with its visual complexity, can overwhelm a novice photographer. He finds the key to making sense of the abundant visual input is to discover the essential compositional element in the view before him.

Whether his subject is mountains, plains, seacoast or, more intimately, a certain moment at the side of a creek, he says his response to nature is about the spirituality of a particular locale. “For me, nature is a sanctuary, a place apart.” He experiences the natural world as akin to encountering God, in a universal sense. Tony finds joy is in capturing these moments of mystery and beauty with his camera and sharing them with viewers.

His work has been published throughout the world in magazines, newspapers, books and postcards. A partial listing of his publishing credits includes the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, USA Today, Sunset Magazine, Time Magazine, National Geographic WORLD, Metropolitan Water District, Southern California Edison Co., The Gas Company, Saatchi & Saatchi, Gibbs & Soell, Southern Pacific, Dupont Ag Products, AutoFarm, and FMC Corporation.

His photography has earned awards from the International Photography Awards, National Press Photographer's Association and the Associated Press.

When he's not out on assignment, he's likely to be teaching photography or photo editing. Tony lives on the California Central Coast and has taught photography and Adobe Photoshop regularly at colleges and private schools since 1993.

Tony is a Trek Mentor with the American Photo and Popular Photography Mentor Series workshops. He's also worked as an assistant instructor at the Lepp Institute of Digital Imaging and assisted with Photoshop workshops for the Photo Marketing Association.

He's also a contributor and moderator at ProPhotoResource and has authored the Photoshop Encyclopedia e-book. He also maintains Photoshop-Help, a website that offers tips, Photoshop puzzles and tutorials for Photoshop users.
